These visually stunning & practical features are constructed from steel rods, welded or wire tied as may be required, depending on the size of the structure. This is a slow and time consuming process, but it is critical to create a sturdy, solid framework on which to begin the rock construction. After all, you do expect the final product to be safe & structurally sound, don't you? Of course you do, which is exactly the reason for us sharing with you the basic methods of construction that you will notice on every page on this website.
The steel framework is then covered with at least two layers of secured meshwire to act as structural reinforcement for the cement layers. Dela Casa is extremely thorough when it comes to the preparation of your fake-rock, as an error in the shape of the frame would be very difficult to correct at a later stage. No two rocks in nature are identical, and this applies equally to the fake-rocks that we make for you, which are created from scratch each time. This is an important point, as very often client's see either real rocks in nature, or photographs of waterfeatures, rocks, etc, and ask us for exact replicas to be constructed, which isn't possible. Similarity can be very close however.
All waterpiping is positioned, sealed and aesthetically hidden, then tested to ensure no leaking. Multiple layers of cement with differing constituencies are then applied to the framework, sometimes over a period of two or three days, to create the desired shape, which is then imprinted with fake-rock texture pads, carved and then painted.
Dela Casa fake-rock texture pads are made by ourselves, by taking imprints from the surfaces of genuine natural rocks with interesting textures, wherever we may find them. we are always looking out for new shapes and textures, and developing our imprint pads is an ongoing process.
